"Datok"

Meeting mediums is an ancient behaviour of our culture. It's still a common practice among us today of having faith in spiritualism. Some would put a medium above doctors and some would use it as an alternative solutions after doctor. Few would use it with good intentions and many today still use it as an evil path. Last week my son was down with rashes....quite a heavy one or above normal. Old folks worried. They mentioned about having an appointment with "Datok". I agreed provided its after doctor. All for a reason and that's my son.

I am not a believer in voodoo or mojo but I am always curious about it. How much truth is in spiritualism. To date I do not have the audacity to meet a medium...its scary :-) but the one's I've experienced is always as a noble cause and not in sense of hurting someone. Seeing a person in trance in many forms creates a questions that always lurk in my mind....is it real ? I believe science is "the" only logic explanation to everything in universe and yet I wouldn't object to the idea of meeting a medium if it provides confidence and calmness to those sick or feeling under the cloud of an evil spirit.

Even when sense of religion is at highest level or science prevails with new discoveries......spiritualism is still an alternative solutions to people. Circumstances has made me a follower too in something I do not believe. That's ironic. Om Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu. ( May All We Beings In The World Would Be Happy )

Jay Bee

JB was the destination today. 3 hours journey accompanied by drizzling rain and moody clouds all the way from home till JB. I have to say I do enjoy long drives but its essential to have loud mouths to avoid me dozing off. Unfortunately I've got my old folks so its more like driving an army general and his wife.

The year was 1992 when I actually took resident in JB. Back then JB used to look like a town after Thaipusam. Blocks of concrete buildings and shanty shops. Sporadic stalls within the city and Majlis Bandaraya staffs used to have hell as breakfast trying to clean up. Still it never looked clean. JB was trying to be like Singapore. That's pathetic to me as I don't see it happening in next 50 years. JB is the most chaotic city in Malaysia I experienced.....hygiene was least important but regardless of the downside you still get to see all walks of life from all corners of Malaysia like me who took resident in JB. Most seeking opportunities in Singapore which was and still a bowl of rice to many. JB today does look better..... thanks to millions of tax payers money.JB remain looking distance from being head to head with Singapore. Tough to digest but that's reality.

I say we need discipline to achieve what Singapore bench marked. I see discipline lacking not only in JB but KayHell needs plenty of that as well. Think of it again...... "SatuMalaysia" needs the discipline. Non negotiable authorities is key to Singapore's success. Read "The Singapore Story" by Lee Kuan Yew to see what I am trying to say. I used to be arrogant towards Singapore but I mellowed down upon seeing Singapore's immense force of building a nation.

Chauffeur

It was more like a politician lobbying for voters before an election day. That's how it was driving my parents to circulate the wedding card of our brother. Yes..... its the final wedding of the Arumugam clan. So far I am enjoying being a chauffeur. One of the reason......I get to see faces and places that I have missed out for about 20 years. Its like "now you see....now you don't". Smooth faces has wrinkles now. Few died. Tree's disappeared. Bend roads are straight. Cattle's are not going astray. Miles and miles of empty lands. Rubber trees uprooted and all you can see is temples left all alone without the estate's. Everyone seems to be living in a developed housing area. "Kampung's" lost its green. Its like a canvas painted in brown.

During this stopovers, I get to see a weird " Jantung Pisang" at one of the homes we stopped. Its like the "Jantung Pisang" is against the law of gravity. Its pointing towards sky. Not sure if its heaven or hell. Call me ignorant if you have seen this in your life. :-) Totally weird stuff to me.

I strongly believe in our community its a must to handout an invitation card regardless of friends, relatives or foes. Differences in opinion, animosities and past flared up moments should be graved by coming together. A sincere unconditional blessing's to the bride and groom should be shown. That is how wedding's used to be in the past. Folks used to feel honored when invited. The community unites as one in a wedding ceremony. A successful wedding usually labels the strength and unity of that particular community. Nowadays it is more of an individual effort. Wedding ceremony has become very costly in the name of earning blessing's. Yet it remains as an important ritual in our life and society.

Don't Quit

Sharing the words of wisdom that I breath to overcome low self esteem. Its a small handy banner I used to carry with me which I thought I had lost it. Its always nice to find something from the past when you are not even looking for it. That's how life is too. We tend to keep looking for something that is already in our possession. Kind of moral booster that gives a kick in the face when I am in trouble waters. Have it a go. Might work. :)

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you are trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit.....
By all means pray, and don't you quit.
Success is failure turned inside out,
God's hidden gift in the clouds of doubt.
You never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar.
So trust in the lord when you're the hardest hit...
It's when things go wrong,
That you must not quit !!

Being A Parent

A friend of mine made me mull over the difficulty of being a parent. A parent who comes from an obedient world would expect to be having an obedient child if the rule of karma is applied. Does karma really plays a role in our lives ? In simple english karma brings the meaning " you do good you get good....you do evil you get evil". If karma gets it right then parenting would be easy but when its not how one should react.Would it be appropriate to say its not fair. Guess I am still far from experiencing the agony of a parent's disappointment to make accusations over karma ruling but as I said to my friend..... nobody said it's going to be easy. Instead of succumbing to the disappointment's, one should collect themselves and march on to see where it went wrong. I am sure all the answers are there to all the "why's" that is mushrooming every time a child disobeys. Every appropriate actions taken needs love in it as love is the main ingredient of a healthy family.

At times in this real world our faith could fail us when we needed them most. Moments like this is when we need to step up by bracing ourselves. I believe giving up on kids is the core of a disobedient child. I am yet to walk the path of having a teenage child but I must say "gracias" in appreciation to my friend who made me ponder over parenting world.

Look Me In The Eyes

We tend to laugh at ourselves when we look through the old photo's and today I found some of my photo's taken in Jakarta. Like everyone else I smiled .......grinned and paused. I refreshed the memories and recollected moments of living abroad. Living independent I have to say created a man out of me. At the same time I get sweat's looking of how I aged :( The only body part of a human that I find evolves parallel to the age is the eyes. How sharp one's eye start's and fade's away over the years. I see it with Appa and now I see it in me. We need to appreciate life as the ultimate reason besides the other reason's of why we are here. Cheers !
