JB was the destination today. 3 hours journey accompanied by drizzling rain and moody clouds all the way from home till JB. I have to say I do enjoy long drives but its essential to have loud mouths to avoid me dozing off. Unfortunately I've got my old folks so its more like driving an army general and his wife.
The year was 1992 when I actually took resident in JB. Back then JB used to look like a town after Thaipusam. Blocks of concrete buildings and shanty shops. Sporadic stalls within the city and Majlis Bandaraya staffs used to have hell as breakfast trying to clean up. Still it never looked clean. JB was trying to be like Singapore. That's pathetic to me as I don't see it happening in next 50 years. JB is the most chaotic city in Malaysia I experienced.....hygiene was least important but regardless of the downside you still get to see all walks of life from all corners of Malaysia like me who took resident in JB. Most seeking opportunities in Singapore which was and still a bowl of rice to many. JB today does look better..... thanks to millions of tax payers money.JB remain looking distance from being head to head with Singapore. Tough to digest but that's reality.
I say we need discipline to achieve what Singapore bench marked. I see discipline lacking not only in JB but KayHell needs plenty of that as well. Think of it again...... "SatuMalaysia" needs the discipline. Non negotiable authorities is key to Singapore's success. Read "The Singapore Story" by Lee Kuan Yew to see what I am trying to say. I used to be arrogant towards Singapore but I mellowed down upon seeing Singapore's immense force of building a nation.
